TPACK

TPACK ARTICLE:

Technology has consumed the world around us. In our everyday lives you can find technology almost anywhere. So it only makes sense that technology is a growing resource in the school system today. The TPACK article emphasizes not only the importance of technology in the classroom, but also the importance of understanding how to use technology properly with the students. The article discussed the importance of both students and teachers using technology properly in the classroom. It is important for teachers to be properly trained in the uses of technology - such as, software programs and Internet. It is also important for teachers to be able to properly educate the students on how to use technology programs within their classrooms and give the student the tools to be able to work with technology correctly.

WebPACK: Future Teachers' Plans and Practices with Emerging Tools:

In this article, a study was done on teachers and how they incorporate emerging technologies into their curriculum. The study examined the teachers descriptions on technology and how they implemented it into their classrooms. The study focused on the components and levels of TPACK. The study found that their were differences in the technologies that the teachers planned to use and what they actually implemented in their practices. The teacher were able to recall how they used TPACK levels and components during their practices; however, their recollections were more at the surface level. In conclusion, the study found that many factors can affect how teachers incorporate technology and why they struggle to reach the higher levels of TPACK. It was also discussed that the grade level and age of the students plays a role in what kind and how much technology affects TPACK.

  1. Technology has come so far. technology is great for teachers and students when they know how to use it properly. I totally agree the grade level and age of the students plays a role in what kind and how much technology affects TPACK. I kept going back to that as I was writing my page for the wiki site as I am doing a 1st grade class.

  2. I can see the difference between what the teachers intended on using and what they ended up using because technology like everything else, is a learning process. We may try something and change it a little or completely remove it if it doesn't result in what it was meant to do. Also, the age and grade level play an important role that we need to keep in mind.

  3. Technology is the key to the future in every field and as educators we are meant to teach children how to use it properly. And I understand that the grade that you teach effects the amount of technology really used in your class. For example Im teaching math and as much as I enjoy technology and all it has to offer, I believe math is a paper and pencil type of class.

  4. TPACK isn’t a tool kit, but more of a construct or goal to which the colleges aspire. It gives a philosophy for moving forward as we draw three concentric circles on a piece of paper, representing technology, pedagogy and content knowledge. The point at which all three circles overlap is the “sweet spot” in which – ideally – faculty should be operating most of the time.
Like many other teacher education programs around the country, I am experimenting with various models to determine how best to work technology into its core courses and thus ensure that teacher candidates know content, pedagogy and technology. I think it’s a beautiful picture of what education should look like if we get there but I also feel guilty that all of you as my “white rats” will be my ongoing experiments to fulfill that ideal and beautiful picture…
